Emancipation Day

Emancipation Day is generally celebrated on the first of July. During this day, the inhabitants of St. Eustatius, as well as tourists, commemorate the abolition of slavery, with ceremonies and celebrations.

It is the coming together of the community. Local food and drinks of Statia and other nationalities, including the Dominican Republic, Suriname, St. Kitts & Nevis, Guyana are showcased.

The wearing of traditional clothing makes this event even more special. Come early and experience the beginning of the day at 6 am with an early morning Statian breakfast at the auxiliary home. Music is playing all day long and do not be afraid to dance a little.
