World Food Day is a world wide celebration. It will be celebrated on October 16th, because the Food and Agriculture Organisation in the United Nations have been founded on that same date, in 1945. On this day, the purpose is to increase the awareness of the world food problem. People in the entire world should work together to reduce poverty and to strengthen solidarity. Everybody in the world needs food, it is one of the basic human needs, however nowadays millions of people still live in hunger everyday.
On St. Eustatius, various nationalities come together during this day to express tolerance and appreciation for each other's culture through food.
