Nu-Vybes was formed in 1987 by a group of five musicians from the capital city of Basseterre, St Kitts. The band's vision, hence the name, was to promote the "New Vibrations" for the generations of the 1980's and 90's and beyond, integrating calypso, soca, dance hall, and reggae, as well as jazz and R&B. Their music is different, borrowing from traditional rhythms of popular Caribbean music to create this new vibration known as Street Style. The acceptance of the Nu-Vybes Band of St Kitts as one of the Caribbean's top soca/calypso acts was strengthened in January 1999 after a huge successful tour of France and England. The group's inspiring performance at MIDEM '99 in Cannes France, is now being described as the turning point in the career of these young Kittitian musicians. MIDEM which is the world's largest music festival and exhibition of the leading music industry players demanded the best from all performers, and Nu-Vybes, according to all reviews, stunned the international audience with a superb presentation of soca, reggae and calypso. The band's energetic performances in the English cities of London, Leeds and Manchester also in January 1999, proved without a doubt that after a decade of perseverance, the Nu-Vybes Band had finally earned a place on the list of the region's hottest soca artistes. Successful tours of the United States and Canada have amply demonstrated that the band's popularity is spreading well beyond the shores of St Kitts. Nu-Vybes' stella performance at the first St Kitts Music Festival in 1996 proved to be so outstanding that it has been the only act to be repeated on the festival all but two years. They have also performed at West Indian Carnivals in Toronto, Canada (Caribana), Brooklyn, New York (Labor Day Weekend), Atlanta (Peach Carnival), Miami and Boston.
They have been the Road March Champions producing the best carnival music in St Kitts 5 times in 1997, 1998, 2002, 2003 and 2006.
Among their top hits have been Indian Chant, Forward On, Stand Firm, Street Style, Keep on Moving, Hand Signal, Ghost of Music, Higher Ground, Rumble, People's Sugar, Step Up, Bangalang, Crazy Love, True Mass and more recently My Radio, Rubberband, Boat Riding, Rolling Deep, Ting Lang and On De Band Stand.
Just when critics thought that Nu-Vybes had put its best efforts in past recordings, the group had once again inspired and thrilled its fans with the 2002 CD entitled "SUGAR". That album is considered to be one of the best to date for the group, featuring twelve (12) tracks with a diverse compilation of reggae/R&B, soca and "street style" calypso. The music maturity and exceptional talent of these young Caribbean musicians are quite evident when one listens to the first class arrangements of all their music. Though Nu-Vybes has been honoured locally and overseas, on several occasions, the greatest salutation is the gyration and waving of thousands of people all over the world to the sounds of the Nu-Vybes Band International. The band would like to thank all of its many fans in the Federation and the VI, who come out and support the Band year after year. As the Band continues its drive to expose the Caribbean and eventually the World to the musical talent of the Kittitian people, they are aware that none of this success can be achieved without the support of the Kittitian massive.
