The Rebels Band started in 1996 by a group of Statian young men. They were all of one family learning to play instruments which initially gave them the name " The Rebels Youth Band". They performed under this title until some musicians left St. Eustatius to further their education abroad in 1998.
Their inaugural CD released in 1999 was named " We Gone Beyond" and consisted of 10 tracks. Most of these became hits which were played on foreign radio stations: Rag Time, Boat Ride, Nice Gyal, Forever and Don't' Give It Up featuring the Lyrical Strawl and Statia on Fire. The song Statia on Fire featuring the artist Private was crowned Road March that year and together they dominated the streets, with old and young on their feet.
The years 2001 and 2002 claimed more fame for Rebels Band as the lead vocalist Ortix Schmidt a.k.a Face gave fans what they wanted. Rebels produced several more CDs and continue to make waves in St. Eustatius. The can be seen performing live on stage during Summer Fest in July, Statia Day week activities in November, Road Blocks and private and corporate functions throughout the year.
